Market hours, explained
How does the Market Hours page know my timezone?
We read your browser's IANA timezone via Intl.DateTimeFormat().resolvedOptions().timeZone and convert every session's open and close times into your local clock automatically. You can also switch to any common timezone using the selector at the top of the page — your choice is remembered across visits.
Are the market session times adjusted for daylight saving time?
Yes. Each session is defined in its native city timezone (e.g. New York sessions use America/New_York), and we resolve the correct UTC offset — including DST transitions — at runtime using the browser's Intl APIs, so times stay correct year-round.
What asset classes does the page cover?
Forex sessions (Wellington, Sydney, Tokyo, Frankfurt, London, New York) run nearly 24 hours a day on weekdays. Equity sessions (NYSE, TSX, LSE, Euronext, Xetra, TSE, HKEX, SSE, NSE, ASX) follow each exchange's regular trading hours, including lunch breaks where applicable. Crypto (BTC/USD, ETH/USD) trades 24/7 with no weekend close. Futures (CME Globex, NYMEX WTI, COMEX Gold) run Sunday 18:00 ET to Friday 17:00 ET with a daily maintenance break.
Why does a session show LUNCH or MAINT?
Some equity exchanges (TSE, HKEX, SSE) pause trading for a lunch break — the status flips to LUNCH and the countdown shows time until the afternoon session resumes. Futures markets show MAINT during the daily CME maintenance window (17:00–18:00 ET), with a countdown until trading resumes.
Why does a session show PRE-MARKET?
For equity sessions that publish a pre-market window (e.g. NYSE from 04:00 ET), the status flips to PRE-MARKET before the official open and the countdown shows time remaining until the regular session begins. Forex sessions go straight from CLOSED to OPEN.
